LET’S CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC DAY AT INSTITUT FRANCAIS

Phnom Penh: For this unmissable French cultural event that has now become an international phenomenon, Institut français invites you on Saturday, June 21st, for an evening on its outdoor stage for a blend of up-and-coming musical artists from France and Cambodia mixing electro, pop, and rap! No fewer than four free concerts are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., open to all ages and families.

Luiza, a young French-Brazilian artist with a captivating voice and magnetic presence, awaits you for a journey through unique soundscapes, where musical traditions from Brazil, Reunion Island, or the Balkans merge with contemporary rhythms (electro-pop, dub…) for a musical evening full of colours and surprises. On tour in Asia, she sets up camp in Phnom Penh to present her new EP, Fantastik—not to be missed!

In the first part of the concert, Tey and 8GK, young artists from the KlapYaHandz label, will electrify the stage before the evening ends with an electro live performance masterfully led by LnHD, a sound designer and DJ originally from Myanmar and now based in Phnom Penh.

“La Fête de la Musique—or International Music Day—is a moment of joy and conviviality, a gathering that brings together adults and children alike!” Fanny Pagès, Deputy Director and Cultural Attachée at Institut français du Cambodge.

After its creation in France in 1982, the Fête de la Musique quickly became a major popular event, highly acclaimed by the French population. It quickly spread internationally, meeting with great success and becoming a true social phenomenon: more than 120 countries worldwide on five continents now participate in International Music Day. This celebration is also an opportunity to promote local cultural and creative industries, which France supports as part of its cultural diplomacy.

International Music Day also brings new musical trends: the revival of traditional music, the explosion of world music, the development of choirs, the emergence of rap, techno, urban music, etc. It thus naturally promotes visibility and access to artistic and cultural practices and demonstrates each year its capacity to evolve and perpetuate itself.
