U.S. EMBASSY KHMER NEW YEAR VIDEO CELEBRATES UNITY AND RESILIENCE

PHNOM PENH: The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh extends its heartfelt wishes to the Cambodian people for Khmer New Year 2024! To celebrate the holiday, the Embassy is thrilled to unveil this year’s Khmer New Year video: Krama to the Future, a cultural adventure depicting U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy and Embassy personnel who journey through time to the 14th century of the Angkorian Period.

To return to the present to celebrate the New Year, Ambassador Murphy and friends must learn to weave krama. This iconic Cambodian scarf has become a symbol of unity, resilience, and versatility. They are assisted on their journey by an Apsara, a celestial being from Khmer mythology, played by Chumvan Sodhachivy (Belle), an alumna of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
