JAPAN PROVIDES AROUND EIGHTY-FIVE THOUSAND FOR DEVELOPING QUALITY PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS AND PROMOTING EMPLOYMENT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

PHNOM PENH: The Government of Japan will provide 854,956 US Dollars in total for 2 recipient organizations under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects. The Grant Contract was signed today between H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representative of each recipient.

The total amount of 553,969 US dollars will be provided to the Non-Profit Organization Hearts of Gold (HoG) for the Project on Developing 4-year Quality Physical Education Teacher Education University through Utilizing ICT’ (Year 2). In this project, HoG will implement some activities to improve the management system of the university, such as a library, international centre, internal quality assurance, teacher development, student management, alumni support and security management in the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport (NIPES) by utilizing ICT. This project aims to establish a sustainable management structure to train teachers of physical education fitted with “Minimum Standards for Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions(MSAHEI)” in Cambodia.

Japan Provides Around Eighty-Five Thousand US Dollars for​ Developing Quality Physical Education Teachers and Promoting Employment for Persons with Disabilities.The total amount of 300,987 US dollars will be provided to the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) to promotion of employment for persons with disabilities by improving the environment of the Women’s Development Center and strengthening the network with communities in Kandal Province. In this project, AAR Japan aims to improve the working conditions of persons with disabilities in Kandal Province by improving the environment of the vocational training centre and by building networks among the local communities. The vocational training centre will be introduced with universal-design facilities and equipped with materials required for training. Additionally, staff will be trained for a better understanding of disability so that persons with disabilities can smoothly adjust and acquire skills while they learn. It is expected that the project will contribute to the socialization and the realization of economic independence of persons with disabilities.

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects started in Cambodia in 2002 to support activities by Japanese NGOs to help Cambodia’s reconstruction and development efforts at the grassroots level. Since 2002, the Government of Japan has provided over 54 US million dollars for 160 projects, mainly in the fields of primary education, health, agriculture and mine clearance in Cambodia.
