DANIEL J. KRITENBRINK ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE FOR EAST ASIA AND PACIFIC AFFAIRS VISITS CAMBODIA 

PHNOM PENH: On February 26, 2024, U.S. Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink and PDASD Jed Royal met with Prime Minister Hun Manet in Phnom Penh to discuss how to deepen the U.S. Cambodia bilateral relationship and address issues of concern.

They discussed a range of existing cooperation including DPRK UN sanctions enforcement, condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, foreign assistance programs, POW/MIA accounting, and law enforcement while also addressing areas for progress in Cambodia, such as democracy and human rights, trafficking in persons, creating space for a free and independent media, and regional security.

Kritenbrink Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Visit CambodiaDuring the discussions, the Assistant Secretary underscored that the United States remains committed to the Cambodian people and their aspirations for a more prosperous, democratic, and independent country where all voices are heard and respected, and Cambodia’s sovereignty is protected.

Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink also engaged with Cambodian alumni of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the regional exchange program.
