PHNOM PENH: On Saturday, 24 February, the Singapore Club Cambodia celebrates the Year of the Dragon at Himawari Hotel Apartments with a crown of VIP guests, partners, and sponsors from the private section, the embassy, and SCC members.
Andrew Tay, President of the Singapore Club Cambodia, welcomes the spectacular celebration of the Lunar New Year hosted by the Singapore Club Cambodia. The event is an exciting opening dance with joy and reminds the Singaporeans of the beautiful traditions that weave the fabric of this magnificent occasion.
The celebration showcased the toss of Yu Shang high with jubilant good wishes, heralding the year’s blessings. Each ingredient in this colorful salad is a wish for a collective future carrot for blessings of good luck, green radish for eternal youth, and golden crackers symbolizing the wealth to come.
“Our celebration tonight is a feast for the senses, embodying the rich cultural tapestry that the Lunar New Year represents. We are particularly excited to partake in the Yu Shang tradition, which symbolizes abundance and prosperity.” Andrew Tay said.
The president of the Singapore Club Cambodia, Andrew Tay, is grateful to the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Phnom Penh and 308 Lei Yuan Delights Restaurant, Singapore Airlines, Cambodia Airways, Himawari Hotel Apartments, Brewmaster, Seristine, Boncafe, Phillip Bank, APD Bank, Capri by Fraser, CPC Wellness, Intercare Hospital, and Haw Coffee who support the event.
Singaporean Ambassador Teo Lay Cheng mentioned that this was the third opportunity she had to celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Singapore Club Cambodia and a special occasion to meet Singaporeans living and doing business in Cambodia.
“I am delighted to once again stand before you to say a few words on this joyous occasion of the Lunar New Year. This is my third such opportunity, and I want to express my appreciation to the Club for the invitation.” Ambassador said.
The ambassador takes this opportunity to present her achievement to the Singaporean community. She said that in September and October, the Singapore Embassy hosted students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Kok Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School in Cambodia as part of learning journeys. In November, she participated in the Leadership for Good Summit, convened to foster skills, insights, and networks necessary to drive transformative change in organizations. In the same month, on behalf of the Singapore government, she signed the Second Protocol Amending the Bilateral Double Taxation Agreement with DPM Dr Aun Pornmoniroth. She emphasized that the protocol will, amongst other things, ensure that profits are taxed appropriately, avoiding double taxation.
She added that in December, she attended and opened the East Asia Management University career placement center run by Singaporean Prof James Chua and was a guest of honor at a concert featuring Singaporeans Shaun Lee and Martin Ng.
The ambassador believes that some Singaporeans were at “Noël,” a Cambodia Christmas Concert held at the Cambodia Japan Cooperation Centre. She was delighted to add that, barely two weeks after the concert, Martin has done Singapore proud by putting up a riveting performance as Sharpless in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly opera held at Koh Pich.
“The Singapore community in Cambodia is very small, and the embassy is also small and will continue to support Singaporeans in every way possible.” She added.
She continues that over the years, the Singapore Club Cambodia has served the interests of Singaporeans well. They volunteered time, money, and energy and looked out for one another. Singapore enjoys a brand premium in Cambodia due to the collective hard work of Singaporeans who demonstrated ethos, unity, and spirit through words and deeds. She emphasized that Singaporeans will continue to uphold this image by working together to support one another.
“The Year of the Dragon represents strength and auspicious beginnings. I hope that we can embrace its energy to overcome any challenges and seize every opportunity along the way. I wish every one of you a year filled with happiness, health, and prosperity.” The ambassador wishes.
