Japan Provides USD 1,093,818 for Promoting Community Health and Sanitation and Hygiene, and for Capacity Building of Youth

Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan has agreed to provide USD 1,093,818 in total for two recipient organizations under the framework, The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects. The Grant Contract was signed today between H.E. Mr. MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representatives of the two recipients respectively, to carry out the following projects:

1. Capacity building of Youth in Pailin, Cambodia: Reinforcement of Community Learning Center (CLC) (Year3) (USD445,994)
Recipient: Kokkyo Naki Kodomotachi: KnK
In this project, KnK will continue to support youth, especially those who suffer from unstable jobs, lack of living skills, and dropping out of school. For the third year of this project, two new CLCs will be constructed and four CLCs including two new CLCs will be equipped with learning materials. By providing enhanced vocational training as well as close support to youth, they can acquire skills that help them to create a foundation for a better life in their future.

2. Integrated Health, Nutrition, and WASH Project in Preah Vihear (Year3) (USD 647,824)
Recipient: World Vision Japan: WVJ
In this project, WVJ will continue to conduct training and awareness-raising sessions about health, nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) to health and rural development officers as well as communities in Preah Vihear province. These continuous activities from the first project year will contribute to improving the overall situation of feeding practices and usage of safe water in Preah Vihear province and help children to grow healthier and stronger.

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects started in Cambodia in 2002 to support activities by Japanese NGOs to help Cambodia’s reconstruction and development efforts at the grassroots level. Since 2002, the Government of Japan has provided over USD 48 million for 145 projects, mainly in the field of primary education, health, agriculture, and mine clearance in Cambodia.
