Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan has agreed to provide USD 664,994 in total for two recipient organizations under the framework, The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects. The Grant Contract was signed today between H.E. Mr. MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representatives of the two recipients respectively, to carry out the following projects:
1. Project for Promotion of Inclusive Education (IE) for Children with Disabilities by Enhancing the Practices in Model Area and Developing IE Evaluation System (Year 3) (USD 266,428) and Recipient: Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan)
In this project, AAR Japan will create an evaluation tool of Inclusive Education practice and implement activities to support capacity building of the “Commune Committee for Persons with Disabilities”. It is expected that Inclusive Education practices developed in the targeted area will be shared as good practices across the country. Through this project, the learning environment and quality of education for children with disabilities in Cambodia will be improved.
2. Project on Developing 4-year University of Physical Education Course at National Institute of Physical Education and Sport (Year 3), (US$398,566) and Recipient: Non-Profit Organization Hearts of Gold
Hearts of Gold will support the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport to develop a 4-year university of Physical Education course by constructing the system to provide a 4-year program, training teachers, and install facilities for physical education. Through this project, 64 staff members and about 200 teacher trainees of the institute will be able to gain a better learning environment for physical education. Also, over 980,000 students in Cambodia are expected to receive more effective physical education.
The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects started in Cambodia in 2002 to support activities by Japanese NGOs to help Cambodia’s reconstruction and development efforts at the grassroots level. Since 2002, the Government of Japan has provided over USD 46 million for 141 projects, mainly in the field of primary education, health, agriculture and mine clearance in Cambodia.
