Phnom Penh: The Embassy of India in Cambodia, celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali, in the form of “Culinary journey from India to Cambodia, in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Indian Association Cambodia, India’s renowned chef Mr. Ranveer Brar and Anicca, a Cambodian NGO, at Kravanh Restaurant on 20 December 2021”. The function was graced by HRH Norodom Chansita, HRH Sisowath Tesso, H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister Women’s Affairs, H.E. Chhit Sokhon, Minister of Cults and Religions, senior officials from Cambodian Government, Ambassadors of Diplomatic Missions, renowned Cambodian chefs and guests from different walks of life.
The event commenced with the opening remarks by Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of India, whereby she underlined the importance of the Diwali festival in India and the strong cultural linkages between India and Cambodia. Ambassador further dwelled upon commonalities between Indian and Cambodian cuisines and stated that this event underscores the strong culinary linkages between the two countries.
The highlight of the event was the video film, shown at the august gathering, in which Mr. Ranveer Brar along with Mr. Kakada, his Cambodian counterpart, briefed on the Indian culinary art and its imprint in the Cambodian cuisines. Both the chefs demonstrated the preparation of the main dish “fish steamed in banana leaf”, as an example of the fusion of Indian and Cambodian cuisine styles.
The guests were treated to “fish steamed in banana leaf”, along with other exotic Indian dishes, with the pleasant Indian music in the background, making the evening an unforgettable experience.
