The Embassy of Japan, in collaboration with the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) and the Japan Foundation Asia Center (JFAC), will hold “Online Tanabata 2021” from 9-11 July 2021, instead of our annual event “Tanabata Festival” organized since 2004, to promote cultural exchanges between Japan and Cambodia.
Tanabata is a Japanese traditional festival, celebrated every year on 7 July in Japan to recall a story of a couple of lovers ―Weaver princess and Herdsman― in the sky. Based on the Tanabata story, the two lovers are separated by the Amanogawa River (Milky Way) and allowed to meet once a year on 7 July. On the day, Japanese people write their wishes on colorful strips of paper and hang them on bamboo trees to make their wishes come true.
During Online Tanabata 2021 from 9-11 July 2021, there will be various online Japanese cultural activities on the Facebook Event Page of Online Tanabata 2021 (Please see the link below) such as Japanese Calligraphy Session, Cooking video by the Ambassador’s Chef, Virtual Tokyo Tour by Zoom, Online Japanese Class, Tanabata Narrative Story, Videos of Japanese traditional culture and more. Time schedule of each activity is enclosed.
