Press Conference “5th International Day of Yoga 2019” @ Embassy of India in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh: A Press Conference was held at the Embassy of India in Phnom Penh on 31st May 2019 to disseminate information on the celebration of 5th International Day of Yoga in Cambodia.

Her Excellency Ms. Manika Jain, Ambassador of India to Cambodia Speech on Press Conference “5th International Day of Yoga 2019”.

The event was presided over by Her Excellency Ms. Manika Jain, Ambassador of India to Cambodia along with H.E. Mr Visothy So, Under Secretary of State Ministry of Tourism, H.E. Dr. Sann Vathana, Member Central Committee of UYFC, Mr. Ouk Diven, Deputy Director General (Sports) Ministry of Education Youth and Sports and Mr. Hem Sinareth, Director of Education & Sports from City Hall Phnom Penh. Representatives of all prominent media outlets attended the event.

he United Nations through a resolution in December 2014 had declared 21st of June to be celebrated as International Day of Yoga worldwide for the promotions of health and well being of people across the world.

Yoga was originated in northern India about 5000 years ago which was gradually refined and developed over the period. Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. Yoga comprises of variety of techniques consisting of different postures (asanas) and training of mind through breathing techniques and meditation. Continuous practice of yoga can lead human beings to achieve excellent health both physical and mental and further attain self-realisation. Yogic practices have been common in the followers of all religions of ancient India including Brahmanism & Buddhism.

Four editions of International Day of Yoga have so far been successfully organized in Cambodia by Embassy of India in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The yoga events in Cambodia received overwhelming participation during these years and have become very popular due to its health benefits. The Royal Government of Cambodia has been extending its continued support for promoting awareness about yoga practices.

Like previous four years, the Embassy of India in partnership with Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Education Youth and Sports would be organizing yoga events in Cambodia in four cities namely Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Battambang.

The major yoga events will be in Phnom Penh on Saturday, 22nd of June 2019 on 7AM at National Olympic Stadium. Siem Reap on Sunday, 23rd of June 2019 in front of Angkor Wat. Simultaneously, two other events will be organized at Sokha Beach, Sihanoukville on Saturday, 22nd of June 2019 and in Battambong in front of Capital Hall on Sunday, 23rd of June at 7AM.

These events will be free and open to all. Participants may get registered in advance to get free Yoga T-Shirts sponsored by Smart Axiata Co. Ltd. However, T-Shirts will only be available to persons attending the yoga celebrations.
