PHNOM PENH: The message of H.E. Mr. Hidehisa HORINOUCHI, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia on the Day of the Enthronement of His Majesty Naruhito, Emperor of Japan. It is my greatest pleasure to be sending this message to the Cambodian people on 1 of May 2019, Which is the day of the Enthronement of His Majesty Naruhito, Emperor of Japan.
The relationship between the Royal family of Cambodia and the Imperial family of Japan started during a visit by His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, who was King of Cambodia at that time, to Japan in 1953. Since then, both families have nurtured their friendship. In 2010, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, paid a state visit to Japan
In June 2012, when he was still the Crown Prince, His Majesty Naruhito, Emperor of Japan, also visited the Kingdom of Cambodia. During the visit, His Majesty attended a royal audience with His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, met Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and visited a classroom at the Japanese Language Department of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. His Majesty also visited Angkor Wat and the Bayon Temple, two of the Kingdom’s magnificent, world renowned cultural heritage sites.
Today, the new era of His Majesty, called “Reiwa”, begins. “Reiwa” means “Culture will be nurtured as people bring their hearts together in a beautiful manner”. I sincerely hope that during the new era of Reiwa, the people of Japan and Cambodia will continue to foster the friendship we have built and will inspire the cultural exchanges that have already done so much to enrich our relationship.
I wish Their Majesties, Emperor and the Empress of Japan, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, Her Majesty Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, Queen-Mother, and the royal family and the people of Cambodia, good health, longevity and happiness. I would also like to express my hope for an even closer friendship between Japan and Cambodia during the new era.
