The opening ceremony of the 2019 Japanese Film Festival was held in the Major Cineplex AEON Mall in Phnom Penh. Dignitaries present included H.E. Mr. Som Sokun, Secretary of State and Representative of H.E. Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, H.E. Mr. MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan and Mr. KUSAKABE Yosuke, Director of Japan Foundation Asia Center Phnom Penh Office.

Mr. KUSAKABE Yosuke, Director of Japan Foundation Asia Center Phnom Penh Office, H.E. Mr. Som Sokun, Secretary of State and Representative of H.E. Minister of Culture and Fine Arts and H.E. Mr. MIKAMI Masahiro, Ambassador of Japan Cambodia.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador MIKAMI expressed his deep condolences for the passing away of HRH Samdech Preah Reach Botrei Preah Ream Norodom Buppha Devi and remembered her life devoted to Khmer culture, her generosity for cultural exchanges, and especially her presence at many Japanese cultural events, including the 2016 Japanese Film Festival.

Ambassador MIKAMI also expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center, Japan Foundation Asia Center and many volunteer students for their support for the 2019 Japanese Film Festival.

After the opening ceremony, a heart-warming family film, “My Dad is a Heel Wrestler” was screened and applauded by the audience. From Tuesday, November 19 through November 24, the Japanese Film Festival will screen 10 of the latest Japanese films at the Major Cineplex AEON I &II and Legend TK Avenue. The public is encouraged to come support the festival.
