Phnom Penh: The 28th Japanese Speech Contest was successfully held on May 24 at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center, bringing together 15 contestants who showcased their Japanese language proficiency, communication skills, and passion for Japanese culture. The event highlighted the growing enthusiasm for Japanese language education in Cambodia and served as a platform for participants to express their experiences, ideas, and aspirations through speech presentations in Japanese.
At the opening ceremony, H.E. UENO Atsushi delivered encouraging remarks to the contestants, commending their dedication and efforts in pursuing Japanese language studies. The ambassador also emphasised the importance of cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Cambodia and Japan. Throughout the contest, contestants demonstrated confidence, creativity, and determination, reflecting the strong interest among Cambodian youth in learning Japanese and engaging with Japanese culture.
This year’s contest featured 15 contestants, divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 10 contestants who had never visited Japan or had visited Japan for less than 14 days. The winners were Chanvichara Ly in first place, Kimsan Sok in second place, and Reaksa Phean in third place. The second group comprised five contestants who had experience visiting Japan. The first-place winner was Sreylin Sin, followed by Sokunthyreach Yun in second place.
Organisers expressed their hope that all Japanese language learners will continue advancing their studies and, in the future, contribute actively as a bridge connecting Cambodia and Japan through education, culture, and friendship. The Japanese Speech Contest continues to play an important role in promoting language learning opportunities and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
