Japan Funds New Cashew Warehouses and Drying Facilities in Kratie

Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan will provide a grant of US$164,269 (one hundred sixty-four thousand two hundred sixty-nine US dollars) to support the improvement of post-harvest operations for cashew nuts in Kratie province. The grant is being provided to the Kratie Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (KUSANONE).

The grant contract was signed between Mr MISUMI Takahito, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, and a representative of the recipient institution for the implementation of “The Project for the Improvement of Post-Harvest Operation of Cashew Nut in Kratie Province”.

The new facilities and equipment are expected to help cooperative members improve the post-harvest handling and processing of cashew nuts. By strengthening storage and drying capacity and enabling better moisture testing, the project aims to increase the volume of cashew nuts available for sale and contribute to the further development of the agricultural sector in Kratie.

The project also reflects Japan’s continued support for grassroots development and local communities in Cambodia, particularly through initiatives designed to strengthen livelihoods and promote self-reliance.

Japan Funds New Cashew Warehouses and Drying Facilities in KratieJapan’s KUSANONE projects have been implemented in Cambodia since 1991, with assistance focused on supporting vulnerable communities affected by poverty and other challenges that may threaten their livelihoods and dignity.

Since the programme began, the Government of Japan has provided more than US$72 million to support over 700 KUSANONE projects across Cambodia, primarily through local authorities and non-governmental organisations. The latest grant further demonstrates Japan’s ongoing cooperation with Cambodia in supporting agricultural development and improving the capacity of local communities.
