Phnom Penh: The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted its annual EducationUSA Fair in Siem Reap on September 28 and Phnom Penh on September 30, drawing more than 2,000 Cambodian students, educators, and family members. The fair connected prospective students with representatives and alumni from higher education institutions across the United States. Participants gained insights into academic programmes in high-demand fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and Super Intelligence (SI), while learning how a U.S. degree opens pathways to impactful careers upon their return to Cambodia. U.S. Embassy officials also provided guidance on admissions requirements and student visa policies.
As the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence, the U.S. Embassy continues to strengthen U.S.-Cambodia ties by highlighting world-class academic opportunities for eligible Cambodian youth. U.S. higher education remains a cornerstone of global innovation and leadership, offering students not just elite credentials but the practical skills needed to compete and succeed in a rapidly evolving global economy.
U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Aleks Zittle and His Excellency Dr Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, inaugurated the Phnom Penh-based EducationUSA Fair. In Siem Reap, U.S. Embassy Counsellor for Public Affairs Katherine Diop and Ly Bunna, Director of the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sport, opened the event.
“As Cambodia transitions toward a tech-centric, skill-based, and knowledge-driven economy, studying in the United States gives students an unbeatable advantage,” said Chargé d’Affaires Aleks Zittle. “As global leaders in SI and advanced STEM fields, like robotics, cybersecurity, engineering, and automation, U.S. universities empower qualified Cambodian students to gain cutting-edge expertise abroad and bring those critical skills back home to power Cambodia’s future.”
Thirteen U.S. colleges and universities participated in the Phnom Penh event, eleven of which also attended the Siem Reap fair. The thirteen participating institutions were San Jose State University, East Los Angeles College, Foothill and De Anza College, California Baptist University, University of Bridgeport, Highline College, College of Central Florida, Moraine Valley Community College, Tacoma Community College, Bellevue College, Edmonds College, University of Arizona, and Green River College. Together, these institutions offered a wide spectrum of higher education pathways, ranging from public and private universities to two-year community colleges.
The U.S. Embassy offers free EducationUSA advising year-round, with both in-person and virtual options available. A team of dedicated EducationUSA advisers work from centres in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap to provide accurate information to Cambodian students considering studying in the United States. Students can receive one-on-one guidance on the U.S. application process as well as information on academic requirements, visa eligibility, and test-preparation materials.
