Phnom Penh: On 6 August 2026, Nagase Kensuke, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, received a courtesy call from four newly assigned Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) volunteers who will begin their missions in Cambodia, as well as five JICA volunteers who are returning to Japan after successfully completing their assignments.
During the meeting, Nagase expressed his sincere appreciation to the returning volunteers for their dedication, commitment, and valuable contributions to Cambodia throughout their missions. He acknowledged their efforts in promoting technical cooperation, community development, and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Cambodia.
Nagase also welcomed the newly assigned volunteers and expressed his confidence that they would make meaningful contributions during their time in Cambodia. He encouraged them to actively engage with local communities, share their knowledge and expertise, and deepen mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.
“I hope that your experience in Cambodia will be both professionally rewarding and personally enriching. Your work will not only support Cambodia’s development but also further strengthen the friendship and mutual trust between Japan and Cambodia,” Nagase said.
The JICA Volunteer Program has long served as one of Japan’s key international cooperation initiatives, dispatching skilled volunteers to partner countries to support sustainable development while fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
Through their work in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, community development, sports, and vocational training, JICA volunteers continue to play an important role in strengthening the longstanding friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Japan and Cambodia.
