Phnom Penh: The U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh hosted a reception to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 1. The event highlighted the enduring spirit of American innovation, enterprise, and diplomacy and underscored the strength of the U.S.-Cambodia relationship.
Chargé d’Affaires a. i. Aleks Zittle presided over the celebration at Koh Pich City Hall, which welcomed more than 1,000 government officials, diplomats, business leaders, civil society representatives, and friends of the embassy to commemorate this historic milestone.
In her remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Zittle reflected on the enduring promise of America’s founding: “What began as thirteen small colonies grew into a nation whose innovation, economic strength, and leadership have helped shape the modern world, and whose success stands as a testament to the enduring power of freedom and self-governance.”
Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth, minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, represented the Royal Government of Cambodia at the event as the guest of honour.
During the celebration, guests toured exhibits by American companies showcasing American innovation and excellence, as well as the Freedom 250 Founders Museum, a White House initiative honouring the history, culture, and heroes that have shaped the United States over the past 250 years.
A brass ensemble from the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific, joined by Cambodian artist and Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumnus Sin Setsochhata, delivered a special performance of musical selections from both countries, reflecting decades of strong people-to-people ties.
The U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh will continue celebrating this important year through its ongoing Freedom 250 campaign, showcasing American excellence, honouring American history, and celebrating the United States’ enduring achievements.
