SOFITEL PHNOM PENH PHOKEETHRA HOSTS VERNISSAGE OF THEO VALLIER

A Celebration of Tradition and Modernity

Phnom Penh: 28 February 2025 – Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra is delighted to host the 31st exhibition at our gallery, unveiling Rust n’ Streets, an evocative collection by French artist Théo Vallier. Known for his mastery of rusted metal as a medium, Vallier’s work immortalizes the essence of Cambodia’s urban life and cultural heritage through raw, textured compositions.

Where the Streets Tell a Story

A resident of Phnom Penh since 2007, Vallier has been a defining figure in Cambodia’s street art movement. He fuses Khmer mythology with bold urban aesthetics. His work reimagines everyday scenes—bustling markets, tuk-tuks weaving through electric cables, and the quiet resilience of street vendors—etched into rusted metal, a material that reflects both impermanence and timelessness.

Through his silk-screen printing and oxidation techniques, Vallier transforms industrial surfaces into living canvases, where layers of corrosion, paint, and light interact to create depth and movement. His art captures the streets’ soul, celebrating the beauty and grit of Cambodia’s evolving cityscape.

“Art has the power to preserve memory while embracing transformation. Théo Vallier’s Rust n’ Streets is a tribute to Cambodia’s rich cultural identity, blending tradition with the raw energy of modern life. His work speaks to our philosophy at Sofitel, where heritage and contemporary creativity converge. We are honored to showcase this exceptional exhibition.”Charles-Henri Chevet, Area General Manager, Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra
