JAPAN GOVERNMENT HELP IMPROVING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND PROMOTING REGIONAL MEDICAL COOPERATION SYSTEM

Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan will provide 720,304 US dollars (seven hundred twenty thousand, three hundred four) in total for two recipient organizations under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects. The grant contracts were signed today between H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representatives of the recipients to carry to Sae Khazato, Director of the Foundation for International Development Relief (FIDR), and  Kikuchi Ayano, Director of Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA). 

The Project for Strengthening Community-based Surgical Care System in Northeast Cambodia within a total amount of 245,872 US dollars (two hundred forty-five thousand, eight hundred seventy-two) will be provided to the Foundation for International Development Relief (FIDR). 

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects to SVA & FIDR In this project, FIDR aims to improve cooperation among hospitals and health centers in northeastern Cambodia by extending the capabilities and leadership of Kratie Provincial Referral Hospital staff to serve as the regional hub for surgery. In addition, district hospitals and health centers staff will also be trained to accurately identify patients conditions and to refer them appropriately to upper-level hospitals.

The project to improve the access and quality of early childhood education in the public preschools in Preah Vihear Province within the total amount of 474,432 US dollars will be provided to the Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA). 

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects to SVA & FIDR In this project, SVA will improve the physical and human educational environment that bridges the education gap between young children in urban areas and rural areas. In addition, SVA aims to improve access and the quality of activities in public preschools in Preah Vihear province, located in northwestern Cambodia.

The Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects started in Cambodia in 2002 to support activities by Japanese NGOs to help Cambodia’s reconstruction and development efforts at the grassroots level. Since 2002, the Government of Japan has provided nearly 60 million US dollars for over 160 projects, mainly in the fields of primary education, health, agriculture, and mine clearance in Cambodia.
