Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan will provide 462,003 US dollars (four hundred sixty-two thousand three US dollars) in total for two recipient organizations under the framework, the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE”).
The grant contracts were signed today between H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E. Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh Municipal Government, and Dr. Lou Ly Kheang, Director of Ang Duong Hospital.
The Project for Procurement of Japanese Smoke Ventilation Truck in Phnom Penh within the total amount of 83,672 UD dollars (eighty-three thousand, six hundred seventy-two) will be provided to Phnom Penh Capital Administration, and in this project, a smoke ventilation truck, which will be the first fire engine of this kind ever used in Cambodia, will be deployed in Phnom Penh in order to improve firefighting capability.
This project will help firefighters respond to fires, including huge and large cases, more quickly and efficiently by implementing smoke ventilation from buildings at fire incidents. This contributes to the protection of over 2.8 million people’s lives and possessions in Phnom Penh from fire incidents. The vehicle was provided by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA), Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan.
The project for the procurement of a secondhand fire truck and rescue truck in Phnom Penh for the amount of 154,376 US dollars (one hundred fifty-four thousand, three hundred seventy-six) will be provided to the Phnom Penh Capital Administration. In this project, a rescue truck, which will be the first kind of truck ever used in Phnom Penh, and a ladder truck with a 40-meter ladder will be deployed in Phnom Penh in order to improve rescue and firefighting capability.
A rescue truck enables firefighters to respond to accidents, including specific situations that make rescue activities difficult. A ladder truck will help firefighters improve their firefighting capacity to cope with a variety of cases, including at high buildings. This improves safety for and helps protect the properties of approximately 2.8 million residents of Phnom Penh, as well as tourists and business travelers from around the world.
The grant support in the amount of 223,955 US dollars (two hundred twenty-three thousand, nine hundred fifty-five) will be provided to Preah Ang Duong Hospital for the installation of medical equipment at Preah Ang Duong Hospital in Phnom Penh.
This grant will be used to procure 3 kinds of medical equipment for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery: 3 forceps, 1 set of drill and shaver, 1 set of endoscope cameras, and a monitor to improve the quality of ENT surgery at Preah Ang Duong Hospital.
The project enhances the efficiency and productivity of medical doctors and nurses who take care of patients in this hospital. Through improved medical services, it is expected to benefit around 32,000 patients, including 1,400 low-income patients.
