Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan will provide 243,450 US dollars (two hundred forty-three thousand four hundred fifty US dollars) for a recipient organization under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE”).
The grant contracts were signed today between H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representative of the recipient to carry out the following project.
With found 243,450 US dollars (two hundred forty-three thousand four hundred fifty US dollars) will be provided to Cambodian Rural Water Association for the project for the installation of water supply systems at 2 villages in Kampong Khleang Commune, Siem Reap Province.
In this project, a water supply system will be constructed, and approximately 8 km of water distribution networks will be installed at 2 villages in Kampong Khleang Commune in Siem Reap Province. Most of the people living in this area have difficulty accessing safe drinking water and are facing health risks due to the lack of water supply facilities within the commune. Through this project, more than 2,300 people will have access to affordable clean water and adequate sanitation, which will contribute to the improvement in their living standards.
Japan’s “KUSANONE” projects started in Cambodia in 1991 in order to support Cambodia’s reconstruction and development at the grassroots level. The assistance aims to protect those who are vulnerable due to various factors such as poverty and/or misfortunes that directly threaten their lives, livelihood, and dignity, as well as to promote self-reliance of local communities. Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided over US$71 million for mainly local authorities and non-governmental organizations to implement 700 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia.
