Phnom Penh: Plantation Urban Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the opening of an extraordinary art exhibition featuring the works of renowned Cambodian artist Chhim Sothy in an exhibition titled Shades and Reflections. The exhibition will open on Sunday, 9th February 2025, showcasing a diverse array of styles that exemplify Sothy’s mastery in contemporary art.
Chhim Sothy is an Artist “Art and society are closely related to each other. Art mirrors society. Artists are able to record most historical events that have occurred and extract the main ideas of events through their works of art. Art can be a reminder, a suggestion, or a critique of a past history. In Cambodia, we must preserve this freedom for the betterment of our society.”
Born in 1969 in Kandal Province, Cambodia, Chhim Sothy is a graduate of the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, where he began his studies in 1985 and completed them in 1995. Over the years, Sothy has established himself as one of Cambodia’s leading contemporary artists, recognized both locally and internationally as one of the world-renowned Khmer artists.
Sothy’s work has been exhibited in Cambodia and across the globe, with exhibitions held in France, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the USA, England, and beyond. His techniques span watercolor, Chinese ink, acrylic, and oil painting, demonstrating his versatility and innovation in artistic expression.
His artwork is featured in numerous private collections worldwide, a testament to his reputation and the universal appeal of his creations.
