Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan will provide 192,509 US dollars in total for two recipient organizations under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (“KUSANONE” Grant).
The grant contracts were signed today between H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the representatives of the two recipients to carry out the following projects.
The Project for the Construction of Kul Totueng Primary School Building in Phnom Krovah District, Pursat Province, within amount 92,191 US dollars will provide to Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization.
In this project, a six-room school building equipped with school furniture, a six-room toilet, and a handwashing facility will be built at Kul Totueng Primary School in Krovah District, Pursat Province. Currently, students at this school have difficulties studying because the wooden school building and wooden furniture are in poor condition.
And there is a less hygienic environment because of the lack of enough handwashing facilities and toilets. This project aims to bring about a safer and more comfortable learning environment, and it is expected to benefit around 316 students and 10 teachers through the improvement in the quality of education.
The project for the construction of the Phum Thmey Primary School Building in Ou Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province, within the amount of 100,318 US dollars, will be provided to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sport.
In this project, a five-room school building equipped with school furniture, a four-rotoilet, and a handwashing facility will be built at Phum Thmey Primary School in Ou Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province. Currently, students at this school have difficulties studying because the wooden school building and wooden furniture are in poor condition. And there is a less hygienic environment because of the lack of enough handwashing facilities and toilets.
This project aims to bring about a safer and more comfortable learning environment, and it is expected to benefit around 169 students and 4 teachers through the improvement in the quality of education.

Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, said, “Over the past 30 years, the Embassy of Japan has contributed to 700 projects across Cambodia through the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects KUSANONE. We are truly pleased that these projects have directly contributed to improving the quality of life of Cambodian people at the grassroots level.”
Japan’s “KUSANONE” projects started in Cambodia in 1991 in order to support Cambodia’s reconstruction and development at the grassroots level. The assistance aims to protect those who are vulnerable due to various factors such as poverty and/or misfortunes that directly threaten their lives, livelihood, and dignity, as well as to promote the self-reliance of local communities. Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided over 70 million dollars for mainly local authorities and non-governmental organizations to implement 694 KUSANONE projects throughout Cambodia.
