Phnom Penh: From December 22, 2024, to February 7, 2025, The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa will showcase the remarkable works of Ouk Chim Vichet, one of Cambodia’s most accomplished sculptors and painters. This exhibition launches a new series celebrating the country’s most exceptional artists.
The exhibition promises to be one of the most spectacular to date, with Vichet’s steel sculptures beautifully blending with the resort’s lush greenery, waters, and tranquil gardens, creating a breathtaking synergy of art and nature.
Alexander Scheible, General Manager of The Plantation Urban Resort & Spa, shares, “Since completing our renovations, we are excited to resume our role as a strong supporter of the Cambodian art scene. Vichet’s exhibition is going to be the first of a series to celebrate the incredible talents of Cambodia in the coming months.”
Ouk Chim Vichet is acclaimed for his innovative use of materials such as metal, wood, and stone, crafting sculptures and paintings that explore themes of peace, resilience, and Cambodian identity. A graduate and faculty member at the Royal University of Fine Arts, Vichet played a pivotal role in the Peace Art Project Cambodia, creating the iconic Naga statue in Battambang, made from decommissioned weapons. His art transforms pain into beauty, offering powerful reflections on humanity and hope.
Vichet’s works have been exhibited extensively across Cambodia and internationally, including his renowned Apsara Warriors, housed at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.
This collaboration marks the second partnership between The Plantation and Marian Pok, founder of the Anicca Foundation. As the curator, she has been the driving force behind bringing this showcase to life. She shares her excitement: “I am thrilled to see Ouk Chim Vichet back on the scene after such a long absence. His return is a significant moment for the Cambodian art world, and this exhibition is the perfect platform to celebrate his extraordinary talent and vision.”
This exhibition offers guests an inspiring journey through Vichet’s sculptures and paintings, reflecting Cambodia’s history, culture, and enduring spirit.
