PHNOM PENH: This October and November, Plantation Resort is proud to host an exclusive exhibition of Happy Painting, the vibrant and uplifting work of renowned artist Stéphane Delaprée, known affectionately as Stef. A pioneer in the Cambodian art scene, Stef has spent decades perfecting his unique style.
Stef’s art is more than just visually captivating—it possesses a profound ability to heal. His paintings radiate warmth and optimism, providing a welcome respite from the stresses of everyday life. Described as “feel-good” art, Stef’s work is a remedy for unhappiness, filled with childlike wonder and a sense of hope. His distinctive style blends naïveté with deep artistic insight, inviting viewers to explore a world of positivity and simplicity.
Born in France and raised in Canada, Stef began his artistic career in the comic strip industry before developing his signature Happy Painting style. In 1992, a visit to a Crayola children’s painting exhibition in New York sparked his fascination with childlike creativity, and soon after, Stef started creating his own brightly colored, playful interpretations of the world around him. His art flourished in Costa Rica, where he began to depict life through a child’s eyes—uncomplicated, joyful, and rich in color.
Since establishing himself in Cambodia, Stef has become an integral part of the country’s cultural landscape. His work reflects Cambodia’s spirit, capturing everyday life with warmth and a touch of whimsy. In recognition of his contributions to Cambodian art, Stef was honored by the King of Cambodia in 1995, and his Happy Painting Gallery was awarded “Gold Status” by the Ministry of Tourism in 2008.
Stef’s work has been exhibited internationally, attracting a diverse and enthusiastic audience from around the globe. His paintings, celebrated for their vibrant colors and uplifting energy, have found homes in prestigious private collections in Europe, Asia, and beyond. Stef’s universal themes of joy, simplicity, and hope transcend borders, making his art a global symbol of happiness and positivity.
This upcoming exhibition at Plantation Resort offers visitors a unique chance to experience the healing power of Stef’s Happy Painting. Whether you are a long-time admirer or encountering his work for the first time, this showcase is sure to brighten your day and leave you feeling uplifted.
